Why Did I Come to Earth?
I Knew An Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly
Growing up, I lived next door to an old lady. (Okay maybe she was only 40, but to a four-year old, she was prehistoric.) She was really mean. If my ball landed on her lawn, she came charging out the front door screaming at me. If I was making too much noise, she would tell me to grow up.
I always imagined that she was the old woman in the story book, I knew an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly. But I never knew what made her so mean? Was it the fly?
If I could see her dreams. I could tell you. Her traits most likely came from one of her parents. Maybe Mom never gave her the unconditional love a child needs. Maybe she didn't feel worthy of love. Maybe because of Dad, she didn't feel safe in life - compassion and empathy was seen as a weakness. Whatever the case, she learned to be controlling, dominant and mean. She didn't outgrow the effects of whatever childhood trauma she endured just because she became an adult.
We all have childhood traumas. That's part of why we are here. In fact, we choose our parents precisely for these challenges.
It Might Be a Tough Fy to Swallow, But We Choose Our Parents
We all pick our parents before we come here. It's all well organized and planned out, And, then it's time to live through the experiences of earthy life and see if we can heal.
Her particular mom or dad was going to be a catalyst for her personal healing. They were going to trigger her in specific ways so that she could emotionally grow and heal.
Triggers are the ultimate pain teachers. But we have to be willing to look at them and take action.
Earth is the Stage for Experiences
We come back to Earth again and again to experience things so we can learn about ourselves. Our reactions to our experiences help us become aware of who we really are.
Armed with this awareness, we can then work on the beliefs that don't serve us and release them. By releasing what is no longer in our best interest, we can open space to begin working on the true purpose for why we are here. And, by releasing worn out limiting beliefs, we make space for our spiritual talents to shine through.
You Came to Earth with Things to Do
There are always things you came here to do. Maybe you came to settle a karmic debt. Maybe you came to experience the dense heavier energy of life in a physical body, maybe you came to fulfill a particular mission with another person or group of people. Maybe you came to teach someone else a life lesson.
There are so many reasons that souls return to Earth.
Some come and willingly take on a difficult life experience to help in the growth and evolution of their soul family. They could be born with physical and mental challenges, or their lives may end quickly.
But these souls know on a deeper spiritual level that there is no true death, only a transformation of energy. Their more difficult journeys are designed not only for their own soul growth but to teach those around them the important lesson about faith, trust, and the power of love.
And Then We Forget
When we get to Earth though, we don't fulfill our mission. We forget it.
And we don't heal. We don't heal because we don't even understand why we feel miserable in the first place. We spend our time trying not to stand out, because standing out doesn't feels comfortable.
Or maybe we never spend time alone because that doesn't feel comfortable. We try to fit in with our friends because we think fitting in will make us happy. We think making money will make us happy. We think a different job will make us happy. We think a new relationship will make us happy. We think yelling at the neighbor's kid because they threw a ball in our yard will make us happy.
But we don't understand why none of that works.
We come with amnesia about our past. We forget all of the grand ideas for healing our issues. But those issues will keep staring us in the face, triggering us our whole lives until we resolve them. We just forgot that healing them was part of the game plan.
Your Dreams Never Forget
But your dreams don't forget. Your dreams know exactly why you are here, and exactly what you're here to heal.
And, they tell you over and over. Ten years from now, you will be having the same type of dreams you are having now because the issues you came to heal are still unresolved.
Eek. That sounds pretty ominous.
Imagine if simply understanding what your dreams are telling you could make such a profound change in your life
But imagine if simply understanding what your dreams are telling you could make such a profound change in your life.
A change where you no longer feel like you don't fit in, or that you can't express yourself, or that it's not safe to be yourself, or even that you don't' deserve to be here.
Everything is reported in your dreams. They are very specific. Your dreams tell you how you react to things, your triggers. Dreams tell you the influences for those triggers and reactions.
Of course most often we reject the message in our dreams, and consequently, we keep living the same life with all the same buttons being pushed that our parents pushed. Only now they're being pushed by our partners or our co-workers.
And you chose those people too. If you don't heal from Mom and Dad's influences, you're going to pick a partner to continue the work. It's all in an effort to wake us up to why you are here.
Whew, That's a Relief
It may come as a relief to some people to learn that the negative traits they carry are the results of their parents. My mom made me this way. Whew! It's not my fault.
But that's not an excuse.
That's like saying, "My neighbor is a serial killer, but that's okay because so was his dad." Remember, you chose your parents for the very reason that they would trigger you and cause you to adopt these traits so that you could heal them.
It's your responsibility to become aware of your wounds and heal them. What happens if we don't heal our core wounds?
We're going to come back again and again until we do. You might say, "No way am I coming back here to deal with this again." But, once you cross over the other side you see life on the Earth a bit differently. You see it as a great opportunity, in fact there's a waiting list to get here.
We get to experience things on earth in a physical mental and emotional level in an environment of duality (love and hate, pain and joy, feast and famine, wealth and poverty, justice and injustice). Earth is unique that way.
As a soul looking at Earth, it may seem an amazing challenge to exist in this dense physical environment. Wow! Bring it on.
You may have had the most miserable life here, but when you pass to the other side you may say, "Wow! That was so amazing to experience all of that. Let's do it again and this time let's..."
And you pick something equally as miserable. But the things that you pick are never going to be things that you can't handle in any particular moment in this lifetime. Your Higher Self never hands you an impossible task.
Imagine if that miserable life, could become a catalyst for raising your awareness to living your life purpose, to feeling like you matter, like you're amazing, and you can't wait to jump out of bed in the morning and show the world who you are.
Everything you are made aware of in your dreams can be healed. And, it's actually your responsibility to heal it because you are healing it not only for future generations of yourself as well as past generations, but your healing it so that you don't pass these negative traits onto your children.
But I Don't Believe in All that Past and Future Me Stuff
Okay, fair enough. But still, working on yourself his major advantages. Numero uno is a happier life for yourself. And if you are happy and kinder with yourself, you treat your children with greater kindness.
Now you are both passing that kindness to friends and piers. You treat people in the community kinder. And everybody pays it forward, and on and on until the world looks the way you envision world happiness and peace to be.
Work on yourself - it's sort of like a recipe to heal the world.
Pretty lofty huh? But as Gandhi is most often quoted as saying, "Be the change you want to see in the world."
That change starts by working on your own limiting beliefs so that you're not afraid to be your authentic self and show yourself the compassion and kindness you deserve.
My Jewish grandmother had a saying too. She said, "Try it. It vouldn't hurt!"
"We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change toward him. This is the Divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do."
