What’s Black and White and Red All Over?

When in was a kid, I used to tell that riddle all the time. ”What's black and white and read all over?”

Of course, it kind of loses something when written down due to spelling. And it loses even more given that we have color photos in the newspaper now. (That was the answer by the way: a newspaper.)

Most of the time, people dream in color. But what if you have a black and white dream?  What does that mean?

It means that you have a black and white attitude about something in the dream. You are seeing things as good or bad with no in-between. But, what about a tuxedo? Or a penguin?

Why Color Matters

You have complete freedom in a dream to paint that tuxedo or penguin any color you want. You could have made that penguin a royal purple, or that tuxedo into a powder blue leisure suit (my highschool prom date showed up wearing one of those and the only saving grace was that my friend’s date wore one in baby pink).

And, whereas that black and white prom suit might feel more formal than say mint green, it’s got a dream message for you.

What's black and white and red all over? A sunburnt zebra, a chocolate sundae with ketchup on top. Color matters!

But that’s an old joke. Is it even pertinent today?  I remember the first time the newspaper came out with a color photo. I was feeling kind of blue because they were making my favorite joke obsolete.
